They grow so fast ...

Hi all ~ nothing crafty to post tonight. I'm a little sad and also happy tonight. Definitely having mixed emotions. See this picture?

It's so true. My darling baby boy will be 18 years old tomorrow. Where did all those years go? For those of you who know me and my family, you know that we've had our share of rough times with my boy. He's had many physical and emotional obstacles in his short life and if I could take away all the pain he's suffered, I would do it in a heartbeat. Any mother would. As I write this, I am crying, because my boy is becoming a young man. He still has so much to learn about the real world and if I can shield him from future pain and suffering, I will. He has definitely come a long way. Although he will be 18 tomorrow, he doesn't graduate from high school until next year. He's doing well in school (despite his disabilities) and even though he's not a very social person, I know one day he'll blossom into the young man that he is meant to become. I thank the Lord every day for blessing me with my special boy.

  2. Linda I totally understand! I wish I can shield my two boys from the world and all of the negativity there is! I always tell myself that despite their disabilities, they are boys full of energy and curiosity! My boys will be 9 in October and they have come so far in their progress and of course we have so much more to accomplish! But I thank God every single day for them and for their gifts...they are truly amazing just like your son! They are filled with gifts and it's up to us to show them their gifts!! You are a wonderful mom and just know that you are doing a great job!! Happy Birthday to your amazing son!! Enjoy! :)

  6. As a mother...my heart goes out to you. raising a child is hard enough, but having a child who has to suffer from many different things, it's so hard. I too have a son who turned 18 this year and will be graduating from HBA in June. it's so bittersweet to have to let them go and figure out life on their own...I would love to shield him from the world, but I know that he will do just fine and he knows I'm always here. thanks for this wonderful post. hope he has a wonderful birthday and take care!

  8. OMG Sister, I'm crying now too! Your baby will ALWAYS be your baby and I know that he LOVES HIS MOMMY VERY MUCH because you have given him all the love and encouragement for the past 18 years. Kids can be mean and knowing that your son endured everything will make him a better man. LOVE YOU SIS and BIG HUGS to your young man.

  9. Hi Linda, yes the do grow up so quickly and know exactly how you are feeling. As Mums we want to protect them but inside know they have to make their own decisions and sometimes these may not be the right ones, but that the only way they can learn and become better people.

My youngest two sons went off to University together and that was so so tough, the house seemed so empty and there seemed no reason to cook for the two of us. But how I look forward to them coming home for holidays.

    Take care, B x

  10. Linda, this is so hard to express right now as you have brought tears to my eyes but I want to wish your son a very happy 18th birthday. He has accomplished so much because of the constant love and guidance you give him every day, and he will blossom and know how much you love him. You are a great mom and a great friend. Continue doing what you do and the Lord will show you the way. I feel the pain and happiness you express. I feel as though I've known you for a very long time. I count my blessings to have met you. I do love you, and will keep you and your son in my prayers. Smile for him, be proud of him, and continue to be the great Mom and person you are! Hugs, Cami

  12. Happy, happy birthday to Ryan! What a beautiful post sister. I think we all want to hang on to our babies because it's a tough world out there. He is so lucky to have you as his mom who nurtured him and guided him all this way. Thank you for reminding us that we need to appreciate our kids too! love you, teri

  13. Hi Linda, you've expressed your feelings about your son poingantly and so eloquently and in such a way that I can see myself in your shoes if I were to have been your position. Your son is a gift . . .many times things we don't expect or ask for are bestowed upon us and we sometimes wonder why. In the end in most cases these things that may be seen as hardship and pain are things that has brought us many joys in the most unexpected places. For your son to turn 18 is a blessing, though wrought with pain at times, has brought some joy in other people's lives, especially to a mother who loves him so like you do.

Happy 18th birthday to your son.

    Maria
